Review: Flowering Baby

Photobucket

Trying to find something fun AND educational for your little ones can be difficult. So, when I was given the opportunity to review Flowering Baby, LLC, I was excited. This is a great way for little ones to not only feel like they are doing school, but actually do school.  This curriculum is designed to, "develop his cognitive, language, gross motor and fine motor, social, emotional and self-help competencies." (quote from website)

I fell in love with Flowering Baby even before I opened the file. The story of how this curriculum came to be made me want to review it even more. The creators are a mother-daughter team with a passion for education and homeschool. This just makes me smile!

Flowering Baby is available for levels 0-5 years of age, broken down by year. The curriculum is aligned with holidays and events throughout the year. This design is great because that means you can jump in at any time.

Each level consists of 2 parts:
1
 A Month Curriculum Guide-
1 for each month that includes activities for math, reading, writing, science and more
2
A Theme Curriculum Guide- 2 themes per month for a total of 24 themes.

The Birth to One curriculum involves a lot of reading, music and sensory games like Pat-a-Cake. The One to Two curriculum It is truly designed for ages 13 months and up. Again, this curriculum has a huge focus on books, which I love! The curriculum for ages Two to Three introduces little projects to practice gross and fine motor skills that focus around themes and books. Each theme has 6 days of suggested activities. Beginning with the Three to Four, more projects are introduced as well as suggestions for websites and field trips. You can purchase individual years for $30 each for the first 3 years and then $38 each for the last two years. They also sell the whole set for $132. All of the curriculum comes in PDF format so you can print only what you need to print.

Here are links to each year. There is a free sample download at the bottom of each page.

My little one is 4.5, so we reviewed the 4-5 Year Old . Having received the curriculum half way through the school year, we had already covered a few of the themes. So I decided to pick and choose which ones to use. Here are some of the highlights.

Aquarium & Arctic Life
We are super blessed to have so many aquariums around us in the bay area. After reading several books, writing words, painting pictures and visiting a few websites, we took a trip to the aquarium.

Farm and Farm Animals
We read Farming by Gail Gibbons which we checked out from the library. Then we visited the suggested free websites. I also wrote up some pages for her to practice writing farm words. Finally, we visited a local farm. We could have stayed on this topic forever.

Flowering Baby is so easy to use. Each theme has a list of books, many of which we could find at our library. The best part is that the books are merely a suggestion. If you can't find them, you can always substitute with whatever books you can find. The idea is to expose your child to the theme.
The authors also provide you with a list of supplies needed that are easy to find, suggested websites which are mostly free and suggested field trips. It is all laid out in a 5 day plan. Of course, the plan is totally flexible so you can pick and choose as to what fits your schedule and your child's ability. If you are teaching older kids, this is always a factor.

Flowering Baby is a great fit for families looking for a curriculum that isn't too demanding on their schedules and doesn't take hours of preparation. My only wish is that I had discovered this a few years ago!

Disclosure: Flowering Baby generously provided me with the PDF files of their curriculum to try out with my children. I received no other compensation, and wasn't required to give a positive review. All opinions are solely mine.
